Modern and old times mode of transportation. I used to ride trishaw when I was younger in Penang. Those days, it’s pretty safe because the roads are not jam packed with cars. But now, you don’t see much local people riding trishaw. Only tourist do. Even that, they only ride at night, which is good - less traffic and the city are less hectic. If this is the first time for you to visit Penang, I think it’s a good idea to get on a trishaw. With the warm breeze of the night, the ‘ah pek’ or uncle’s operating the trishaw will show off their knowledge about Penang. Another reason to ride is that you may not have the chance to ride one in the future. Most of the trishaw peddler are nearing the age of retirement. They are the last generation of trishaw peddler, as no one wants to be a trishaw peddler anymore. It’s sad, but sooner or later trishaw peddler would be another profession of the past and trishaw would be another object in the museum.
